Workhorse Sales Racks

It is always a good thing to have an essential workhorse in your store to help you get your merchandise on the sales floor quickly. A workhorse is a good thing because it generally will take up minimal space on the sales floor and can hold a larger number of clothing pieces as an alternative to a traditional 2 or 4-way rack. These pieces can include new product or clearance merchandise. Over the next few days we want to highlight a few of our favorite workhorses that we think will really go the distance in your store.

Folding Racks

Our Folding Rolling Rack is known by several names, folding rolling rack, salesman rack and salesman stockroom rack. Whatever name it is called, it is an essential workhorse. The unique feature of this rack is that it folds down to just 4 inches and can be stored easily out of sight. The Single Rail Rack (60113) can hold 48 to 72 garments assuming each garment takes one
inch of space to hang. The weight capacity of this rack is 125-150 lbs of merchandise.

The Double Rail Folding Rolling Rack (60127) was added to our inventory within the last year and has the same features of the singe rail Folding Rolling Rack except with this rack you can take advantage of an additional hang rail capability and has a weight capacity of 200 lbs. This rack collapses down to 6 inches. Both racks only require about 5 square feet of actually floor space!

We will bring you some more options later this week. In the mean time, please visit us on Facebook and Twitter to sign up for member exclusives, sneak peaks and more! Thanks for visiting us and if you have any questions, please let us know. We love hearing from you.

Raw Steel 2 Way and 3 Way Racks

Clothing Racks are common fixtures that appear on retail sales floors in all types of stores big and small. The clothing rack has a simple purpose; to aid in showcasing the latest clothing that you are offering in your store. Here at Store Supply Warehouse we wanted to turn the traditional clothing rack up a notch. We have our 2 way and 3 way clothing rack featured here from our Boutique Collection. We are going to highlight the features of these racks and give you a few suggestions in order to maximize their benefits for your store.

2-Way Rack

Our Raw Steel 2 Way Rack features push button adjustment that allows for adjusting of the height on the rack from 48” to a maximum height of 72”. This is a great feature because it allows all types of merchandise to be displayed from jeans and t-shirts, swimwear to formal gowns. Whenever you display clothing on a 2 Way Rack, it is always helpful to display it at different sight levels. Whenever you get the opportunity to display clothing on a rack you can trick the customer’s eye into wondering throughout the rack. This will keep the customer’s attention on the merchandise and allow them to take in all the merchandise not just one thing.

3-Way Rack

Our Raw Steel 3 Way Rack Features the same push button adjustment for height however, this rack has a unique element which is the third arm that comes out from the side arching out to display merchandise for an interesting visual presentation. This rack along with the 2 Way Rack and the remaining Raw Steel Boutique Collection have finials that can be added to the tops of the rack to add even more stylish elements to create a unique look that be changed as often as your merchandise. The finials simply snap into place after you remove the standard square finial from the existing rack.

The next time you want to jazz up your retail floor, give our Raw Steel Racks a try for something a little out of the ordinary.

Wire And Acrylic Easels

Wire and Acrylic Easels

Easels are a great fixture to have in your collection to assist in displaying all sorts of merchandise. We wanted to show you a few items that lend themselves well to easels and the different features for each of the easels shown.

Adjustable invisible easels have a non skid wire back that is fully adjustable.  The front of the easel (bottom support) is acrylic and will not compete with the color of the item that is sitting on top if it. This is perfect for merchandise like plates that always look sharp when shown in an upright position. This also helps with saving space if shelf space is at a premium.

Vinyl coated easels are available in two colors white and black. We feature two types of vinyl coated easels.  The first is the two wire easel. This is fully adjustable and can display all sorts of merchandise like books and china. The second is the 3-wire vinyl easel. The 3-wire vinyl easel can display an even larger variety of merchandise than the 2 wire because the third wire can be adjusted to allow for taller items and oddly shaped merchandise.

The acrylic easel is in a fixed position. This easel is 5 1/2 w” x 6” h with a 3” opening and because it is all acrylic, anything displayed on it will seem as though it is floating on the shelf or countertop. Merchandise looks really sharp and retail ready with this easel.

Our easels are a great way to show merchandise that traditionally would be shown flat on shelving units and allows the merchandise to take center stage and be shown the way it was meant to be shown. Cat’s Like Us Owner Spotlight

We are very pleased to present our latest Store Owner Spotlight here on the Store Supply Warehouse Blog. We are always proud to introduce you to our customers who share our passion for offering wonderful products that they are proud to present to everyone.

What do you have when you mix modern day style with retro flair?  The answer is Cat’s Like Us. Since October 2009, Cat’s Like Us has welcomed both an online store and a traditional brick and mortar location offering retro clothing, accessories, and gifts.  The owners Julie Ann Davis and her husband Andrew have always loved and collected vintage clothing. Because it was hard to find vintage clothing it in good condition and the sizing was much smaller in the 1940s, 50s and -60s era. They decided that the perfect solution was to offer retro clothing.  The best thing about retro clothing is that it is available in the classic styles but with modern fabrics that stretch. What’s even better is that they can be found in sizes from XS through XXXL. When asked about their mission the answer is very simple. Julie Ann’s personal mission is to outfit customers in clothes that look good and make them feel good. The modern sizing and stretchy comfortable fabrics encourage customers to want to wear the clothes.

With a name like Cat’s Like Us, I had to know where the name came from and of course it was a funny story!  The name was the hardest part of opening up the store. They had a running list of possibilities ranging from Shindig (which Andrew liked) to The Black Cat, but none of them seemed right.  One day while they were listening to a song Cats Like Us from one of their favorite bands the Hillbilly Hellcats, the lyrics described what they wanted their store to be about and the rest as they say is history.

Julie Ann has worked in retail for almost 20 years in both corporate and small local boutiques.  She has a Master’s Degree in Modern Art History. Andrew has worked as a designer and web developer since 2001 around Buffalo, NY and as a freelance developer. They had been thinking about opening a retail clothing store for some time. When Julie Ann was laid off she decided to use her time to create her dream job. Her experience is in business and retail sales, and Andrew has experience in website development and marketing, so a partnership seemed a great fit.

Cat’s Like Us has an eclectic funky vibe that is still very focused and pulled together. When asked about their design strategy they let me know that they envisioned a “retro boutique” with simple displays, bright colors and clean lines like something out of the 50s. Fortunately for them not much has changed in hardware from then to now. The overall inspiration of the store draws from 50’s diners and their use of bright colors, black and white tile, and chrome accents.

The store is located on a corner with a lot of window space. The store design is a challenge because it doesn’t have a lot of wall space. They always have dress forms in all the windows. Most of the floor space consists of 4-way racks, 2-way racks, and display tables. In one area of the store they have a display wall with vertical shelf brackets mounted to the wall that they can arrange however they want with faceouts, black laminated shelves and hangrail bars. The flexibility is one of the best things they love about their set up. They actually look forward to floor moves!

Since packaging is always an essential part of a business, I wanted to know what type of packaging they used for customer purchases and of course Cat’s Like Us offers up some wonderful ideas that are unique and fresh. Since a professional look is essential and their store possesses a boutique atmosphere, each of their customer purchases get wrapped in white tissue paper and placed in paper shopping bags that match the turquoise color of the store. When the purchases require boxes, they are placed in black boxes with polka dot turquoise and white ribbon as “wrapping”. They like that the colors match and are very identifiable as Cats Like Us bags, plus they are nice enough that they can reuse them.

When planning special events, Cat’s Like Us is always willing to offer events that showcase local artists. Each month they try to have an in-store retro themed event.  A few other things that set them apart from the competition is that Julie Ann uses her years of buying experience together with her uncanny sense of practical style and love of classic vintage look when assembling the store’s collection. Julie Ann is really good at choosing styles that look great on many different body types. The small size of their business allows them to be very proactive in terms of customer service. They answer the phones and fulfill web orders almost immediately. And of course, they offer free parking! Now how great is that?

I saved the best question for last. Because so many people dream of owning their own businesses I wanted to know what advice they had to offer aspiring business owners. The advice is simple. Andrew was quick to point out that he has learned a few things.  If you are going to have both an online and brick and mortar store, have the online store set up first.  Always have a business plan and actually refer to it.  Have a banker, lawyer and accountant that you like and can rely on.

Jewelry Display Ideas

Jewelry is one of the most popular gift items for Valentine’s Day. 12% of all marriage proposals are made during this time of the year. We feature a lot of different types of jewelry displays that can really make your merchandise shine. Whether you’re selling high end jewelry or everyday fashion jewelry, we have a display piece that will allow your jewelry to take center stage.

We want to show our jewelry displays in use with hopes that some of our merchandising will inspire you to try one of our displays in a way that you may not have thought to use it and to show the versatility of the products we offer.

We offer most of our jewelry displays in black and white. The jewelry can take on a completely different look depending on what color displayer you choose. We have merchandised both the black and white displayers with a variety of jewelry styles. We wanted to show the versatility of the fixtures. Whenever you display jewelry it is important to remember to display like items together to tell a style story. Keep in mind that whether you display jewelry on a tabletop, counter or inside of a case, always use lifts and levels whenever possible. Lifts and levels allow the eye to wander throughout the display which is more visually appealing.
