Halloween displays are going up, and that means Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. But purchasing items that are holiday specific can get pricey since unused items need to be stored away until next year.
Last year we talked about creating displays that were more harvest oriented to stretch Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations.
And this year, unless you sell costumes and candy, we have a few suggestions that incorporate some of our old and new packaging products to create elegant fall bags. And most of these items can be used again in almost any season.
Paper bags fit in well with the feeling of the season. So if your merchandise enables you to make that switch, consider a paper bag. Warmer colors work well for both holidays and to stretch things even further, deep reds and forest greens will carry over to Christmas. Just don’t use them at the same time until late November. Chocolate and burnt orange also work well into November. And a combination of these bags will be season appropriate since they all mimic the colors of the soon to be changing leaves.
One way to personalize these bags for the current holiday is to buy stamps at local craft stores. A simple pumpkin or falling leaves stamp can be used with a complementary colored ink to easily add some character to bags. Plus, you can stamp a few at a time so only the bags you use immediately will be marked for that holiday and the extras can be used later in the season.
If you are looking for a higher end product, our new metallic bags in either the gold or copper colors communicate the warmth of fall without being overtly associated with either holiday.
Another popular option is the kraft colored bag. Because the light brown kraft is a neutral color, you can accessorize with different colors of tissue paper and textures such as raffia. Deep colors of paper raffia work well with paper bags. Or if you are looking for a quick pop of color and sheen, consider using pearlized raffia.
Raffia is also an easy way to touch up displays, baskets and other items, the little possibilities for this product are endless.
And don’t feel limited to the standard fall colors. Experiment with burgundies and purples. Deep blues and teals can also be used as an accent when used in the correct combinations.
